I Wrote a Terrible Thing

Hey guys!  So, I solemnly swear that in the throes of NaNoWriMo, the terrible things will not be forgotten!  …They just may have to wait until weekends.

In the mean time, since some of you actually seem interested (BLESS YOU), I do have a few excerpts from the yet-to-be-titled Terrible Thing of my own creation.  (In fact, feel free to send in title ideas! WORST ONE WINS.)

I’ll only put up some of the worst bits here, I think, but for interested parties I’ll be posting the whole thing at the brand-new, just-made, grey-faced-icon’d I Write Terrible Things.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send submissions there!  I’d love to see what you’ve written, and would love to share them!

But, for now, have a taste of what I’ve done so far— nothing’s been posted previously because I honestly thought you guys were showing enthusiasm just to be nice, because you guys are the best followers ever.

Plot so far: Alma, a ghost girl who can’t recall how she died (bear attack, is the official statement) is torn between her still-living boyfriend she can’t touch, and an incubus that she knows she shouldn’t.  When will she discover that her boyfriend is a werewolf… and is the one who killed her??!!11!?!Q@!?

Be Still My Vampire Heart, Part One: Someone actually called a book this.

Guys, I think I have found the worst book yet.  It’s forbidden love between Vampire and Vampire Slayer, only so much worse than that.

I will say that this telling will begin a bit differently, as this new novel was found in the discount pile at Powell’s by myself and my friend Kristin, and then one of us read it aloud while the other scrawled horrified notes on napkins in a coffee shop.  So, this might be a bit disjointed.  (For example, some of Kristin’s horrified notes are just “Boners tonight!  BONERS!” “You walked into that one.” “This woman’s body does not function like it should!” “Rump-induced hypnosis!” and, and this is a direct quote, “CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPYCREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEP CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY.”  I have absolutely no idea what parts of the book any of those comments pertain to.)  So, bear with us.

Without futher ado:

There’s a lot at stake in this romance.
THERE’S A LOT AT STAKE
AT STAKE

Interlude: His Cowboy Werewolf Lover

So, we here at I Read Terrible Things try to focus on the bad novels of the world.  However, I stumbled upon the realm of free romance e-books, in all their terrible glory, and I accidentally wound up with a few short stories.  I skimmed a few—most were nothing more than mediocre extended sex scenes, which were largely dull, and I resolved to ignore the short stories entirely.

But, one of them was called His Cowboy Werewolf Lover.  And it was everything the title promised it would be.  So, I present unto you, a short one-off (ba-dum, tch!):
